Ahu Vinapu is one of the larger ahu on Rapa Nui. The ahu exhibits extraordinary stonemasonry consisting of large, carefully fitted slabs of basalt. Reminiscent of Inca stonemasonry, many historians believed that the accurately fitted stonework at Ahu Vinapu showed contact with Peru, but both Vinapu I and Vinapu II were constructed earlier than 1440 and similar work only shows up in Peru after 1440.
The stone wall faces towards sunrise at Winter Solstice.
